About 700,000 Americans have Strokes each year and 150,000 of them will die as a result.
There are 57 million Stroke survivors in the United States today.
A Stroke occurs when blood fails to reach brain cells due to a blood clot or bleeding in the brain.
Strokes are unpredictable and can cause permanent damage.

The Brain
Types of Strokes:
- Hemorrhogic Stroke - Occurs when a blood vessel in the brain burst or breaks causing bleeding in the brain.
- Ischemic Stroke - Occurs when a blood vessel becomes blocked usually by a blood clot that happens in other parts of the body that travels to the brain.
Ischemic Stroke is the most common form of Stroke.
Stroke Risk Factors:
- Age 55 or older
- Family and personal history
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Diabetes
- Heart disease
- Lifestyle:
- Smoking cigarettes
- Alcohol
- Drug Use
- Unhealthy Eating
Stroke victims, 50% do recover and 50% will suffer from a disability.

Warning Signs of a Stroke:
- Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
- Sudden severe headache with no known cause that comes on suddenly and has no known cause
A Stroke is a medical emergency. Anyone suspected of having a Stroke should be taken immediately to a medical facility for diagnosis and treatment.
