Definition:
Sleep, a natural periodic state of rest for the mind and body, in which the eyes are usually close and consciousness is completely partially lost so that there is a decrease in bodily movement and responsiveness to external stimuli
Basically sleep is a time when your body and brain shut off
Signs of lack of sleep:
- Lethargy or low energy
- Short-term memory problems
- Difficulty concentrating
- Irritability, depression or anxiety
- Decreased libido
- Daytime napping
Health Issues related to lack of sleep:
- Sleep apnea
- Narcolepsy
- Depression or restless leg syndrome
How much sleep is needed?
- Sleep needs vary from person-to-person
- Aim for at least 8 hours a night
- The average sleep time is 6.22 hours
Healthy Sleep can be achieved by:
- Eating or drinking a calcium-rich food before bedtime (warm glass of milk). I enjoy warm almond and rice beverage
- Avoid heavy meals or alcohol
- Praying
- Reading
- Calming music or sounds
- Calming scents
- Talcum (powder)
