What is Stomach/Belly Bloating?
Stomach Bloating is the feeling you get when your abdominal region is larger than normal.

Abdominal bloating is a condition in which the belly (abdomen) feels full and tight. Your belly my look swollen (distended).

"Bloating is swelling of the abdomen resulting in an increased waist diameter due to retained fluids or gas."


Most Common Symptoms of Stomach Bloating:
  • Stomach distention
  • Feeling gassy
  • Excessive belching
  • Sensation that resembles over eating
  • General discomfort
  • Fullness and tightness in abdomen
  • Abdominal pain
  • Change in gut size
  • Food sensitivity
  • Indigestion
Bloating is almost always accompanied by pain. The presence of discomfort, belching, or gas at the same time your belly expands are indicators that bloating is occurring.

            

There is a difference between being Bloated and Fat "Fluffy."

Fat will normally feel spongy when pressure is applied. If you can grab more than an inch or two of your stomach using your thumb and fingers you are gripping fat.

Bloating is generally tight and firm you cannot grab fat because your abdomen is stretched out too tight.

What Causes Stomach Bloating?
  • Foods
  • Overeating
  • Weight gain
  • Air swallowing (a nervous habit)
  • Fluid retention
  • Gastroesophageal reflux
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Pre-menstrual
  • Constipation
  • Small bowel bacterial overgrowth
         

Gas and Stomach Bloating are more than just painful and embarrassing looking.

They can be symptoms of a much bigger problem:
  • Bowel Obstruction
  • Tumors
  • Candida Infection
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Celiac Disease
  • Crohns Disease
  • Diverticulitis
  • Gastritis
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Liver Disease
  • Pancreatitis
  • Viral Gastroenteritis

How to Get Rid of Stomach Bloating?
  • Eat fresh fruit and vegetables - High in fiber can ease constipation:
    • Eat Potassium Rich foods - bananas, cantaloupe, mangoes, spinach, tomatoes, nuts, and asparagus, are high in amino acids.
                                      
  • Do not eat too fast;
  • Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces clear fluids daily;
  • Avoid soft drinks and carbonated beverages - The carbon dioxide can become trapped causing bloating;
   
  • Avoid overdoing chewing gum - leads to swallowing air, which can cause bloating;
                                             
  • Eat natural fresh foods;
  • Avoid packaged foods;
  • Avoid high-sodium foods - sodium dehydrates and limits your water;
                  

                                           
  • Eat smaller meals more often;
  • Watch out for sugar free foods and sugar substitutes;
  • Limit starches - bread and pasta;
  • Eat dairy in moderation - be mindful of lactose intolerance;
  • Avoid foods that are too cold or too hot;
  • Avoid caffeine - it acts as a stimulate and can overexcite your digestive system;
                                                
  • Exercise, movement, especially in the morning before breakfast - encourages bowel release - example walking 15-20 minutes each day keeps food moving through your digestive tract, sweating also releases fluids, this helps relieve constipation;
  • Avoid constipation;
  • Consider preventive care such as seasonal colon cleansing, and eat good bacteria "Probiotic."

What Foods To Avoid Gas/Bloating?
  • Dairy Intolerance
  • Fructose Sensitivity
  • Nightshade Vegetables:
    • Potatoes
    • Tomatoes
    • Egg Plant
    • Jalapeno and Chili Peppers
    • Bell Peppers
  • Yeast Sensitivity
  • Brussels sprouts, turnips, broccoli, cabbage, beans and lentils
                              

                                        

 Remember!
Stomach Bloating is caused due to excessive gas and fluids.
