Quick Tip - Health Checks

What Health Tests and Screenings Do You Need? 

                                      

Here are a few:

  • Blood pressure test - Less than 120/80;
  • Cholesterol screening - Less than 200 (African Americans under 175);
  • Diabetes screening (Blood fasting) - under 110;
  • Depression screening - If you are feeling down for 2 weeks or longer ask your doctor to test you for depression;
  • Pelvic exam - to rule out other health issues, cancer;
  • Breast cancer screening - mammogram get annually starting at age 40;
  • Cervical cancer screening ( Pap test); 
  • STDI testing (Gonorrhea test, Syphilis test, Chlamydia test, and HIV test) - every time you change sexual partners;
  • Flu vaccination - a protective shot for persons 6 months and older;
  • Shingles vaccination - a protective shot for persons 60 or older;
  • Bone mineral density test - get tested if you are 50 and over;
  • Dental exam - get a cleaning and checkup every 6 months or more;
  • Colorectal cancer screening - using fecal occult blood testing, sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy;
  • Colonoscopy - every 5-10 years after 50;
  • Hearing test - a required test after 65 an audiologist;
  • Vision test - every 1-3 from 40-64, checking for glaucoma and age related vision changes.
