What Health Tests and Screenings Do You Need?
Here are a few:
- Blood pressure test - Less than 120/80;
- Cholesterol screening - Less than 200 (African Americans under 175);
- Diabetes screening (Blood fasting) - under 110;
- Depression screening - If you are feeling down for 2 weeks or longer ask your doctor to test you for depression;
- Pelvic exam - to rule out other health issues, cancer;
- Breast cancer screening - mammogram get annually starting at age 40;
- Cervical cancer screening ( Pap test);
- STDI testing (Gonorrhea test, Syphilis test, Chlamydia test, and HIV test) - every time you change sexual partners;
- Flu vaccination - a protective shot for persons 6 months and older;
- Shingles vaccination - a protective shot for persons 60 or older;
- Bone mineral density test - get tested if you are 50 and over;
- Dental exam - get a cleaning and checkup every 6 months or more;
- Colorectal cancer screening - using fecal occult blood testing, sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy;
- Colonoscopy - every 5-10 years after 50;
- Hearing test - a required test after 65 an audiologist;
- Vision test - every 1-3 from 40-64, checking for glaucoma and age related vision changes.
