This weekend I am facilitating a women's retreat and one of the topic areas is unforgiveness. We have been talking about this. One of the presenters Patrice Gaines, Co-founder of The Brown Angel Center in Charlotte, NC provided simple steps to forgiveness and I want to briefly summarize and share with you some key points of her presentation.
Steps of Radical Forgiveness:
- Take a moment to bring to mind the situation troubling you or the person who has upset you
- Close your eyes and feel the emotion where did you feel the pain in your body?
- If you feel tears coming , cry
- Breathe deeply, even if you don't understand it, consider the possibility that the situation may be purposeful to connect you to your divine purpose
- Consider that your situation may be a reflection of something that needs to be healed within
- Ask the questions are you ready/willing to release the situation?
- Recognize that in forgiving them you have forgiven yourself
- When the feelings reside you will have a sense of love and happiness
